Sniffing sticks become an integral part of your training if you decide to dedicate to obedience. The sticks are used to recognize the owner's scent and each stick has some symbol on it, so you know which stick is the scented one!
What are the distinctive qualities of these sniffing sticks?
- Two options: oak and spruce wood.
- Oak wood is harder, ideal for dogs with a stronger bite, but it's more suitable for advanced sniffers because the scent holds onto it less.
- Spruce wood is softer, holds the scent better, but it won't resist heavy chewers.
- The purchase contains 10 sticks, each stick measures 10 cm.
- Each stick has a different symbol on it, so you can recognize which stick has been scented before.
- To neutralize the scent, leave the sticks for 48h in the air.
And how does this activity look like in practice?
- Scent one stick, hold it in your hand, touch it, snuffle it. Just make sure your scent stays on it. Remember the symbol on this stick.
- Sit your dog next to you and ask someone to pick the scented stick using tongs and place it about 5 meters away from you. Add the remaining neutral sticks (be careful, use tongs for these too!), so the sticks are about 30 to 40 cm apart.
- Send your dog to the sticks, and he must find and bring the correct scented stick. Verify it by checking the symbol on the side of the stick.
Attention, this product is intended for dogs (and their humans). It's not a toy for the furry one to play alone, but a training tool. So, never leave it unattended with the dog's teeth, injury may occur.
